Art

Students will work on art projects and have lessons around finding their inner artist. Media varies, but creativity is nonstop! Keep an eye out for gallery showings in the hallways!

Students will use different tools and materials such as paint, oil pastels, clay, fabric, markers, scissors, speed squares, and pencils. The students will create a variety of projects such as: drawing, sculpture, sewing, creating with clay, paper in a variety of ways, and printmaking.

Library

The Horizons Library is a special place for learning. Students have lessons on research, spend time finding the perfect book, and other activities to help foster learning on their own.

Music

Music is the focus! Singing, basic theory, and even some instrument practice are on the schedule for music specialist time.

The music program at Horizons supports student learning through engaging in vocal and instrumental instruction, creative movement and folk dance, developing musical literacy and exploring music history. In the music classroom, your student will be able to explore, create, and perform music in an environment that celebrates diversity and is respectful of each child's special talents and individual needs.

5th graders get the chance to participate in band or orchestra, as well as spend time with the music specialist.

Physical Education (PE)

Students participate as a classroom in physical education lessons in the gym, around campus, and on their own at home! During PE specialist weeks, be sure to dress to move around!

If your student is injured or not able to participate in PE, please send a note or email explaining why.

Students should come to class wearing clothing that is safe for movement and exercise.

  • Footwear should include some type of flat bottom sneaker (no heels). Tennis shoes, or basketball shoes that lace-up are perfect. Velcro, or other fasteners are fine, as long as the shoes do not fall off (no sandals).
  • Socks are also an important part of proper footwear. Regular, white tube socks are great.
  • Pants, sweats, shorts, and skorts are preferred. Dresses and skirts should come with shorts, or tights underneath.
